IP RATINGS EXPLAINED
IP54 -rated for partial protection against dust and water splashes for a minimum of 10 minutes with an oscillating spray.
IP65 -rated as “dust tight” and protected against water projected from a nozzle or rain.
IP67 – rated as “dust tight” and protected against immersion for 30 minutes at depths 150mm – 1000mm.
The IP Code consists of two letters (IP) and two numbers. IP ratings indicate specific levels of sealing effectiveness from dirt, dust, and moisture, and were developed to create a definable standard beyond vague words as “waterproof”.
For example, the first number indicates how much protection the enclosed electronic equipment has from foreign bodies as dust, dirt, and debris; the second number indicates how much protection the radio’s enclosed electronic parts have from various forms of moisture as drips, sprays, and full submersion.
